2016 hasn’t finished yet and Joe Pullizi of Content Marketing Institute is already talking about the trends for next year. He mentions the importance of a “real content marketing strategy” that encourages marketers to plan, roll out, track, and measure the plan to determine what works and what doesn’t. Another trend that he mentions which I certainly agree is influencer marketing. The ability to build and leverage your connections with the big players in your industry will help you drive more traffic and sales to your online business.
Speaking of traffic, social media is an excellent channel to promote your site or blog to your target audience. Given the saturation of social media pages out there, you need to be creative without breaking the bank. Jason Parks of Entrepreneur lists nine ways on how you can use content to boost your social media engagement, thus bringing in more visitors to your site or blog.

I have discussed the importance of writing click-worthy headlines for your articles. By writing the most compelling headline for your posts (without resorting to click-bait and cheap tricks), you can drive more traffic to your site from social media and search results. If you have been a seasoned blogger, you are aware of tips and tricks on how to create content that people will read. However, the use of different tools to track and measure your blog’s data may cause you to lose sight of the bigger people. After all, at the very heart of blogging is the need to convey thoughts and ideas in a clear and concise manner that is geared towards a specific audience. As much as possible, a rule of thumb in writing is to always write in the active voice to create stronger sentences and to communicate your ideas properly. Some would even say to not write in the passive voice because it dampens the message of your article. However, Keith Cronin of Writer Unboxed makes a case for the use of passive voice to balance the article’s tone of voice and make it read more natural.
If you are starting out as a freelance writer, you may be focused on looking for gigs at job boards and referrals. If these aren’t panning out for you, you can leverage social media to bring more attention to your services and attract more clients that way.
